Underfloor heating and vinyl flooring: what to check first

Most vinyl floors work over underfloor heating — provided the temperature is controlled and the subfloor is right.

Know the temperature limit

Surface temperature should not exceed 27°C. Above that, the adhesive and the core can both be affected, and any movement shows at the joints.

Commission the system before fitting

Run the heating for at least a week before installation, then bring it down to room temperature 48 hours beforehand. This drives residual moisture out of the screed.

SPC is the safer choice

Its stone-composite core is dimensionally stable, so it expands and contracts less than flexible vinyl as the system cycles through the day.
